Inequalities in Matrix Algebras
This course will provide an introduction to current research in the mathematics underlying quantum information, quantum communication and quantum statistical mechanics. The mathematical setting is the theory of von Neumann algebras on finite dimensional Hilbert spaces, and motivated by questions coming from quantum information theory especially, there has been much progress in the past decade, and new perspectives have emerged, and will be explained in this course, which will cover the landmark results. Although current research direction will be discussed, the prerequisites are minimal: good introductory courses in linear algebra and analysis will suffice.
